Beautiful sunset with deep, rich colors. It was glorius.
Time for some hot milk and then bed. |

Well done captions winners.
Off to work early today - preaching in a wee village near Perth this morning.
Back later. |

I am still awake, warm milk didn't help at all. It is 1:20 my time and I am really tired but can't settle my mind. Very frustrating.
It is thick fog outside and seems like it is freezing. Sounds like it when the dogs walk out there on the leaves.
Well, just thought I would check in but it seems quiet. |

Dull, grey dampish morning and 6.4C. It's very still and all the usual birds are at the feeders. Chaffinches seem to have invited all their relatives to visit.
Enjoy whatever you are doing today.
Had a look at the stats for last year at Pohtiolampi, makes interesting reading. Only thing I cannot see is the success rate for dives. Must check again.
Off for a look around the cams. |

Loch Garten a squirrel in possession of the feeder.
Loch of the Lowes, ducks must think they are going to get fed, streaming up from the loch. Pheasant up at one feeder and squirrel in the other.
Falls still looking good.
Montrose Basin a different view but no birds around.
Caerlaverock cam still on badgers playground.
Heligan no owls and no birds at feeder just now. Saw a crow yesterday who seems to have opened a gap up the side of the feeder so can get nuts out that way. |

MOrning all, guess who fell asleep last night and so no voting was done missed boxes as well , another video to catch up on lol
Very well done to Nan and Sandy on coming first
Jess many congratulations on coming second
Margaret,Rosemary and Susan
and not forgetting everyone else who entered and were maybe just pipped to the post , not to worry it's all just fun thanks to whoever voted for me
Nan it is good news that some species can be saved, let's hope they are successful
Laughed at everyones antics, Nuphar I did laugh at your posts lol
Quiche, hope you don't sit too closely or you may need some waterproofs
I did plant one bag of bulbs but don't really think they will grow as the ground is sodden, I really intended buying some compost and a planter but I forgot, but if they do not grow will just try a different area next year with some more guess it's just the same with fruit and veg I tried to grow last year, wasn't very sucessful due to the weather, but will try again this year
Carmac, hope it doesn't take too long to get the house back in order
CArol, try and not think of when your daughter is leaving but just thoroughly enjoy every minute she is with you all
PHYL, seems like this year will be one travelling for you
Skay do hope you eventually fell asleep, too much on your mind me thinks
Derek, hope you soon see your little snowdrops , I was looking to see if I had any coming up but can't see any, think I mistakingly lifted some thinking they were grape hyacinth bulbs
Hoping all boilers, furnaces are working, sorry no good offering my boiler as my upstair rads still not working lol, just discovered there is no heat whatsoever if the downstair ones are at highest
Well it seems Ollie's recovery was short lived as 6am and then again 7am he brought up liquid, but on a positive his appetite has greatly increased and will just mean keeping an eye on him, but I was thrilled he went almost 8 days without being sick, so that's something positive
HOpe everyone has an enjoyable day
Cannot quite remember whn Ann?Millie is having surgery but hope Jean is enjoying the extra company
Mind gone blank |

Have just spent a happy hour on an estate agents page. Knightfrank.co.uk
Looking at Scottish houses for sale. not that we can afford any. Didnot know that if you have 2+million to spend you can buy Ailsa Craig island!!!
The usual tits, nuthatches, jays and robins hungry for seeds on our walk. Most of the trees seem to be fine in the park, but several large rhodies are now looking rather smaller than they were last week. snowdrop buds appearing in the formal bit whilst in the woods the tips of the wild garlic (ransoms) are pushing up. 7C and not a breath of wind, though we now have a light drizzle.
Setting off to visit mum, armed with copies of M&S crops
Have a good afternoon back later. |

Good day, Villagers,
It's a mild, drizzly day here, too. It seems that we have somewhat the same weather today.
Nan--thanks for the link to the Edinburgh gardens article. Such a shame about the damage. We took lots of photos while we were there. It's good to think of the trees being recycled in building projects rather than just being thrown away.
Cas--Maybe Ollie has just eaten too much? His sickness may be his body telling him to slow down a bit while things digest.
Phyl--I hope the boiler is still working.
Has anyone heard from Anne? I hope she has electricity and heat.
It's very quiet on my street today. I don't even hear birds at the feeders. Maybe they are sleeping in a bit this morning. I filled the feeders last night,so breakfast should be available.
Kath--I hope your mother finds just the crops that she wanted. I am so glad that they have come back into style. It's a nice alternative to both long and short pants and very useful here in the hot summers.
I'm off to do the early morning chores, though even the cats don't seem much interested in breakfast right now. |

Kath, i'm sure your mum will be pleased knowing she can order some summer clothing
Martha, can remember in one of Annes posts saying she was going stay quiet for a wee bit, i'm sure she will post when she feels able to
There is a programe on tv right now about Return of the Eagles in Ireland, sadly it's not all good news and so many introduced are being poisoned but it' will be on stv1+1 for any Scots hoping to watch , not sure if you can watch it on itv player but prog includes , golden Eagles, White tailed and Kites
Not sure if this link will work for all

Although we are over the hill from the Grangemouth refinery, if there is a low cloud base at night we can see the burning off stacks' flames flickering as their light is reflected off the underside of the clouds. Looks quite strange at twilight because the sky is lighter to the East than to the setting sun in the West. |

Greetings villagers - the sun is attempting to be seen, but the clouds are now in control.... Many visitors at the feeders. I am sitting at my desk next to a window...there are five squirrels lined up looking in the window. Seems the peanut feeder is empty Of course it was filled with a large bag of peanuts this morning! |

Greetings everyone.
Congratulations to all the competition winners. Looked like a great caption photo and lots of imaginative entries.
No real chance to catch up. The pace here has been fast and furious over the past few days with shopping and socialising with my sister. There have been so many lunches and dinners out, the last two in Edinburgh yesterday. This afternoon she is packing and leaves tomorrow. I have just loaned her my large suitcase as she is on a losing packing battle.....
We are feeling very sad. It has been a wonderful 4 1/2 weeks. I know tomorrow will be hard with a difficult few days ahead until normality sets in......
I hope to slowly catch up with news here.
All good wishes to you all. |

Firstly, I forgot to congratulate our winners of the first caption contest of the year. So to Nan & Sandy in 1st place, Jess in 2nd place & Margaret, Rosemary & Susan in 3rd place
Sheila You are really going to miss your sister. So glad you had a great time on this visit & the memories will get you through to the next.
I just finished a garden tour to see what is peaking up through the earth here. I have snow drops well on their way up & some crocus. Just checked my records & snow drops bloom Mar 12th in my garden. If the weather gets cold again, they will slow down. The crocus were up in December to be fair. It's so lovely to discover sprouts in January. Just had a laugh. My brother was over adjusting the new dead bolt on the front door. I tested my key & it works well now. Then my brother went home & I came into the house only to be greeted by his little dog Barbie as she came out of my kitchen. She had a big grin on her face & was licking her lips. I knew right away she had cleaned all 3 cat bowls. I just laughed & sent her home. She is a master at watching for the right moment & when it comes, she quietly spirits off & does the deed.

Kath I watched this too. The fellow thought he had decided on Kiara who is the cat that has been returned twice by former owners. She cries all night & goes off her food apparently. But she choose the fellow this time which is a first time for her. He fell for her but Jacci talked him out of it as she just didn't think Kiara was ready to go yet. So the fellow showed Jacci Wiggles (on cam as Jacci was with her Dad). Wiggles was his second choice & Jacci agreed Wiggles was a better fit. It was interesting to hear him talking to Jacci on phone & cam while making the decision. I think he has adopted from her before. |

Liz Jacci said he had adopted from her years ago. The family cat died last Thursday. Cas, I think Jacci thinks Kiara will be better in a one/two human household, rather than a family. Though I felt sorry as she really liked them. |

Hi there ! We are picking ourselves up..& the decorations are down....
We got off to sleep at 7 am...
What an adventure last night ! At 1 am lil Robin screamed his head off...wanted his dad !! As everyone was getting up at 4,I entered into long negotiations with Robin.. " Papa has to sleep, yes,Maman too. Pappy too ? yes... Me: You go on the airplane and the bus and then when you get home you'll see Spock! (cat) ? Spock, yes he's waiting to see you. So you have to lie down ans sleep a little more" NO !...definite ! Me: can you sit down then ? NO.
Half-hour later we are at stalemate so,I pluck him outa the cot and sit him on the livingroom couch. "That do ?" Yes. After another 30 mins,I get up to go and get a cuppa... NO ! "I am getting a cup of tea" YES..
So I managed to let the others sleep an extra 3 hrs. The little fella fell fast asleep on the couch. Only needed then to get his anorak on and into the car...( I didn't even mention him waking his little sister,or Gigi joining the racket.). .I loves little children ..
Congrats to all the competition winners and entrants. |

Try changing the filter Kath, that is often the problem, or are we talking cordless phone/wireless internet connection, one can interfere with the other's signal.

Yes it's the latter Pete. But nothing is new. Actually cordless phone but PC direct wired. But router loses it's signal. Router is SKY, phone BT. Maybe Sky want us to switch the phone over to them too. |

If PC is wired cordless phone shouldn't affect it so I would try a different filter if you have one. |

Anne: Good to see you have power, water and warmth once again. How are you and Ian doing?
Nan: I got my first wood stove after I was without power for 5 days. It happened almost every winter and I just couldn't stand being cold anymore. Three years later I was without power for 8 days and got a second wood stove downstairs. Firing both of them up keeps the house nice and toasty. It is just hard to use them when I work full time. This holiday season when I was home, it was too warm to have them going. I haven't had a fire for almost a year now. But I still have lots of good, dry firewood just in case I need it. Next month could be a test. I keep hearing we will get lots of snow and I am crossing my fingers we will. |

Anne when I posted about plants growing ,I meant plants can be replaced again, maybe not the beautiful specimans we may have lost , but I was really comparing garden to life, we can replace plants but cannot replace lives lost during those strong winds, but i've always enjoyed shrubs and plants grow, here in mums gardens there are roses more than 50 years old, I wasn't sure if they would be damaged, some not looking too good but they are still there, will have to see what spring brings, hope this helps

Anne, your Crane update reminded me to check on facebook for any new posts from them. That had only been posted for a couple of minutes so was too new to miss.
I'm not usually a great one for running around collecting signatures, but this is too important and needs sorting fast for the sake of the birds.
just read back and see I was so excited I typed Operation Migrsation |

I have signed petition to FAA.
If you have a mo. do look at this cam tonight. Its the cam on Griffon Vultures,or Black Storks (depends ). Its always quite beautiful in the moonlight,(full moon time now). You see the cliffs in Portugal where these birds nest. There is a bird there now but difficult to tell which one ?
If we are very lucky, the cam operator will direct the cam over the river. Its beautiful.
That cam goes full screen.

Skay I suppose we had become complacent, as any power cuts we have had in recent years have been short duration. Last time we had a 5 or 6 day cut we still had solid fuel central heating so had a degree of warmth although heat could not circulate. We were also younger and could go out and about during the day. OH struggles with cold even with heating so that was a worry however all is fine now and it made my mind up about the woodburner. Hope you feel better and more able to do all you need to get done before going back to school. |

Kath: Malc can have mine.
Whew, it is almost 2 and I guess it will not be clearing off today. I am going to have to get outside and get some things done anyway. Fresh air will be good for me and I hope it will help me settle down and sleep tonight. Not before I get the paperwork done for work.
Toodles everyone. |

Carmac: Wow, I see both of them. I think one came in and landed right at the top of the cam frame as I was just getting it to full screen. Will bookmark this to keep watching. When they nest, to they use the area that looks sort of flat in the middle of the cam? |

Skay Both the Griffons and BS's nest there...on different ledges.
Sometimes they have a spat about who uses which nest.

Kath. Hope you sleep well tonight.
Carmac - we never stayed quiet when our kids were asleep. I remember being at a party with son when he was tiny and he fell asleep right beside the DJ's speakers. Also when daughter was in special care the amount of times panic alarms or fire alarms went off in the hospital and the babies never moved a muscle. |

Hi all,
Thank you for the third place votes; I was very surprised. Congratulations to Nan, Sandy, Jess, Margaret, and Rosemary. Well done!
Liz - wow, that refinery burn-off was amazing! I would be one of the people calling the emergency services to report a bomb or something. That was huge. This may sound silly, but it has been bothering me for a long time as to what that white oval was on that Emera Oval cam. For the life of me I couldn't figure it out. It never dawned on me that it was an ice rink.
Cas - so sorry to hear of your friend's husband passing. I am sorry for her loss.
Anne - glad to see you again. I hope you saw some sun today.
Martha - I laughed out loud at your fishnet stockings with tummy control remark. I'm right there with you.
Nuphar - thank you for keeping the Village's spirits up these past couple of days with your party antics, dress code, and bucket list. you get the bravery award for doing a zip line multiple times. I'd like to try one eventually - if there is one attached to a couple of yaupon holly shrubs. Mind you, it's not that I'm afraid of heights - I'm just afraid of the fall.
Better go. Time to get dinner started. Tonight is the beginning of Season 2 of Downton Abbey - and I can't wait!! So, dinner will be early so that the bedtime routine can start early. I want those kids in bed by 8 tonight! |

Susan, thanks, it made me smile at Lowes when many people on bloggers day stared for a while and said I was nothing like what they had imagined, and I clean forgot to ask for details...I had not formed a picture of them before the day so why had they of me??? And what was it like? the Persian gentleman the name Nuphar foxed them in to? I had never thought of it as a hazard.
I had no worries about being strapped up and pushed of for the zip slide, I am not afraid of rivers, though I should be when not in a suit.. but our club was somewhere around doing safety boat cover for the raft race. River not that deep, I would scrunched before they reached me. It was the oaktree the lower end of the rope was tied to that seemed too near the water for the boys to run with their braking action, so it was a very sudden stop..one had to have faith in them.
I really do have to do something about my sinking into a chair for the rest of my life attitude. |

Sorry Derek, I missed it. Are you referring to the crumpet comment? If so, I can play dumb. I've no idea what a crumpet is. Some sort of a musical insturment - ie.:crumpled trumpet? I'd better be quiet now. My worldly wisdom is glowing like a refinery fire across a harbour. |

Some one else can explain to Susan that crumpet is a nice looking lady (well endowed) the other sort is some sort of fatty carbohydarate starch you toast and has masses of holes in for the butter to soak into and drip out of.
Orrff now.

A crumpet is a kind of flat muffin made for toasting - but the slang meaning also exists [in less polite circles]. |

Susan--You are a delight! Here's a definition for crumpet covering both meanings:
Etymology17th century, either from crompid cake (“wafer, literally, curled-up cake”), from crompid, form of crumpen (“to curl up”); cognate to crumpled. Alternate etymology is from Celtic; compare Breton krampoez (“thin, flat cake”).
Sense of “desirable woman” attested 1936, possibly as cockney rhyming slang for strumpet; alternatively, compare tart (“loose woman") (itself possibly cockney rhyming slang for heart or sweetheart). |

Thanks Martha! I'd heard of a lady being called a tart, but not a crumpet. I've also heard of tea and crumpets, but I didn't know what they were. I'll have to go to my local British Emporium store tomorrow to see if they have crumpets (of the eating variety... ) |

Quiche When our son was 10 days old he had his 1st dinner out with us. From then on at 70ies parties,he came along. Never a problem.
Suppose the twins are not used to noise, maybe they don't get out much ?
? stay-at-home parents maybe ?
Cas I am sorry to hear your life-long friend's husband has died. |

Think it's still to be fairly mild here, then cooling at the end of the week. Still higher temps than usual
Will head off to bed now . |

Good night Nan, Cas, and everyone else.
That was nice of you to help your neighbor, Phyl. I hope you get some snow for next weekend.
Guess I should go. The countdown for Downton has begun, so I need to help the girls get things ready for school and bedtime. |
