Nan Must have been a really nice feeling this morning to wake to a lovely warm house.
Sandy Yeah Meals out, or takeaways. Good to see that your power was only off for 5 hours. Very lucky compared to Nan and Anne, but still long enough.

Cas Yes, Jacci read Paddy's Southampton letter last week. It was quite long but lovely to hear. Everyone enjoyed it. There was news of him last night too. He had been to Trafalgar Square. I am getting a kick out of Jacci's pronunciation of some of the places he has been. She said he will be on his way back to the USA after this final visit in the UK. Then he is going to have a rest & she thinks they will send him off again. Bear

Surfaced Cuppa read Sun and Cloud am with Kath in spirit. We ended up at a really good fiddle and guitar standing room only venue, feet tapping and a few whirls with one's shoulder bumper. Still stunned and almost silent in reflection. Coffee Cup kath, svede was a lovely blonde, she was so keen to dance. 4pc Band

Kath: Your short-hand version of Nuphar's escapades has made me laugh right out loud and wake the dogs. She lives a surprising life, eh.
Nan: So glad to hear you have power, heat, light, warmth. Puts things in perspective when you don't have power for more than a few hours.

It has been a busy, stressful week. I have managed to read all he posts but know I don't remember everything. And I missed the competition.
Susan: Hope you have a chance to continue resting and caring for yourself. Feel better.
Pat: Watched the ship video. Shocked
Phyl: Maine was on our weather news. No snow, warm temps, snow making. Maybe winter is going to pass you bye. There is some snow here but way below normal.
JillR: I hope the wind damage to your park was not too severe.
Anne: I hope you can rescue the rhodies. They are pretty hardy. They blow over here often because they get so top heavy and their roots are so shallow. Good luck. I just can't imagine what you have gone through.
Carol: So glad George is showing improvement. His physical improvement is related to getting food and water. I have a horror story of something that happened to my mother but won't go into it. It still chills my soul. I don't even want to be in a hospital. Good on you for being there as his advocate.
Carmac: Granny with twins, survive in joy. How much longer are they with you?
Hi Esses, Derek and Cath, Tricia, Sheona, Marion, Jess, who have I missed, Cas...more...my mind is now a blank. Not intentional to leave people out. Remember, it is only 4:00am here and I have only had 4 hours of sleep. Good day to you all.

Hi all
Back from mother's and turned on PC to get on forum and......
IT STOPPED halfway through startup.
We still have the letter that paddy sent, but it rather long, so have PM'd Pete to see if it OK to put wth the Photo's. It is a bit longer as Jacci missed out 2 Paragraphs. We also sent a postcard the day Paddy left Southampto and as I didn't see boxes last night, does anyone know if it was mentioned?

Now on laptop but off to Computer casualty hospital

Hello everyone, great captions as usual.
I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying some sun today.
Kath - I too had a laugh at your description of Nuphar's adventure. Laughing
Nan - I ma so glad that things are back to normal for you. You have made me realize how much I take things for granted. I sometimes complain because I have to throw clothes in a metal box, push a button and add soap, but I guess I should appreciate the ease of the task. It obviously could be a lot worse. Smile
I hope Anne is ok and will check in soon. I agree with Skay - the rhodies are fairly tough. Maybe you can upright a few and they will bounce back.
Sorry to hear you have computer problems, Esses. I hope the computer geeks can fix it for you.
Liz - I am enjoying your Halifax cams and all of the others that are linked up to them. (I have them saved to my favorites on my computer.) I like to check on the snow amounts on the various cams. It doesn't seem like there is much snow; is there usually more snow by now?
I am feeling much better. I can breathe through my nose today which also means that the pressure headache is gone. - Yea! Very Happy
Off to check the cams...BBL

NAN....If this was not an open forum, I have many tales from my past I could tell, and last night has made me realise it is not time to give up on adventures.,quite a few were suggested...I do mean things like long river snorkels though I would appreciate boat cover now until I am stronger again. Boat My last act of 'bravery' was the zipslide fom a height over a wide river, it threatened to slam one into the tree at the lower end of the rope,, that was the scariest bit, it became addictive and they let me do it several times. Help! It is all too easy to sit back and fester, I know, it is what I did last year. Watch this space? Tortoise

I know it is not easy for many of you to visualise exciting things ahead, there are hurdles to overcome, but I have found many times, that things do change, most unexpectedly, so hang in there!! Red bud

(See what a driver and a few glasses of wine can do overnight!!)

Good day, everyone,

Excellent news that most of you seem to have temperate weather. Maybe the patterns are finally turning. It's very foggy here. Last night there was an almost full moon shining through the mist. It was both beautiful and eerie, and today when I turned on the computer, the Google site had the Halloween drawings on it. Have I missed something? That would be a craft moment of epic dimensions.

Susan--glad to read that the head cold is getting better. They always seem to take about 7 days no matter what medicine you take.
Nan--Good to hear that the power is still on. I hope it is for Anne, too.
Esses--good luck with the kitchen refitting. I hope it doesn't cause too much disruption, but there is the compensation of no cooking for a bit.
Carol--I hope that George continues to be able to take nourishment and to improve. You're a good neighbor.
Nurphur--sounds like you and the fishnets had a good time last night. Smile
Cas--is Ollie still eating heartily?
skay--there hasn't been much snow on the east coast where OH is either. I can remember this happening several years ago and then in March, there was a huge blizzard that shut things down for almost 2 weeks.

To anyone I have missed--I hope your day is good and that you will have only pleasant adventures to share with us later. I'm off to feed my birds and cats before it rains.

Pete--thanks, as always, for the village.

I do need to reiterate the purple, silver threaded fish net is a scarf, shawl, whatever, over the shoulders, with a slithery, heavy eel like life of its own, a c...mas surprise.. 'When I am old, I will wear purple,' so I did, and do.

Cas I watched it all last night. Jacci's mom & sister Nancy were there. They both seem very nice & both in awe of what Jacci does. I think Nancy in particular really enjoyed helping Jacci with the boxes. But she spent a lot of her time last night keeping an eye on Putter & cleaning up after him. He goes through periods when his food doesn't agree with him. So he was sick a few times. He & my Squiggy are the same when they are about to throw up in that they cry to you as a warning of what is about to happen. That's what Putter was doing last night. Jacci said his food has to be changed every now & then & with the change comes a settled tummy. Same as I have discovered with Squiggy. But Nancy didn't seem to mind although she said "I'll never ask Jacci if I can help her again." But it was said in a laughing way as sister's would.

Susan Good to hear you are enjoying Nova Scotia web cams. Yes, we usually have lots of snow Snowman 2 by now for skiing at Martock & Wentworth but next to none right now. It's a very mild winter with rain rather than snow. There is a web cam called Emera Skating Oval under the Halifax cams. Same thing there for skating as the oval ice has been hard to keep this year. It's a shame because skating on the oval is free & the citizens of the city love it. Just listened to CBC News. They said they had many calls & emails last night about a huge burn off flame at Imperial Oil Refinery last night. You would see it at night on the Pier 21 web cam as it looks over to my side of the harbour where the refinery is. Those of us that have lived here for years know that the refinery does a big burn off of excess gases every now & then but others aren't familiar with it so went into panic mode when they saw it happening on the web cam last night. Very Happy

Nuphar--You inspire me to do something slightly daring today. I'm not a very athletic person, so I will probably have to do something more tame like joining a book club--or wearing fishnets, but only if they can be found in control-top tights.

Liz--OH grew up in a town whose main industry was an oil refinery (called a Louisiana oil patch in the local jargon). Periodically something would blow up and the kids who had parents that worked there were allowed to go to the school office and phone home to make sure everyone was OK. Hopefully things are safer now, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Martha, Gee, looks like there is now a group of ladies, maybe a gent or two, fanatical about ospeys, wearing fishnets under sensible trousers and feeling oh, so young and skittish again...

I am on the rebound temporarily, migraine, my sort , easily helped by C... mas pudding from my barely touched stores and tinned macaroni cheese. Happens when I forget to eat when remeniscing..this may cheer up those who cannot abide over cheerfulness if theirs is a dark day. My plans all gang awry. Big pot of tea and feeling very relaxed, join me if you like. It is now a nothing day.(Happy to be idle tho')

Just had a chirrupy thank you call from from someone we delivered home after having much drink taken last night, you would not believe it, she has been warned of a suspicious character too near hers for comfort, a ladies's nightmare if you understand me. Her doors are locked. Aw, gee. so glad my driver would not hear of her walking home.....

Martha, that is why I loved wearing a dry suit, they exert no control, the freedom was bliss, the only constriction was at the neck and wrists, the rest was bliss, floating on water. And everything stayed up.

The computer has had to stay at the computer hospital and could be there for about a week. As the laptop and me don't see eye to eye, probably won't be on so much for the duration. Crying or Very sad
Will try to keep up with posts and try to post a couple of times a day.

Esses--I am sorry about the computer. At least there is a back-up and we will enjoy hearing from you when you can check in.

Just for fun, I looked on amazon.com for fishnet tights, and there is a brand advertised as Industrial Fishnets. There was a photo of stockings, so I am assuming we're not talking shrimp nets here. One's mind boggles.....

Carmac, great poem, I do not spit, I do hoard pens and I do want to make up for the mistaken sobriety of my youth. And I do like sausages.

Bother, I can see again, will have to go and do something useful.

Nuphar: I was watching the chickens today for quite some time. I find their clucks and shirps so peaceful. What is interesting is how there were two that came right up and looked in the camera, waiting to be fed I think. Wonder what time food is put into the container and if it says "Feed the chickens" and you click on it, does that signal go back to the feeder to release some food. They sure acted like it. Fun. I didn't see any ducks but enjoyed the goats scampering up and down the ramp.

One of my greatest experiences was flying in a WWI replica bi-plane, two seater, open cockpit. My neighbor had built it in his garage and then moved it to his hanger at the airport where the wings were attached. He had flown the plane all over the US to air shows and to a huge fly-in in Wisconsin several summers. It was the 4th of July and I was invited out to the hanger for a picnic and while there asked if I wanted to fly. I donned the leather jacket, bomber hat and climbed into the tiny seat. I cannot describe the most wonderful time I had flying with nothing separating me from the sky, like a bird. He flew me all the way over by our houses and the school, over the lake and the river. Wow, thank you Nuphar for tickling my brain of wonderful moments. There have been others but this one stands out. I often ask, why am I afraid of heights if I love to fly. Star Duster was the kind of plane.

Hi Folks
Seems very quiet here tonight. Hope its because people have had such a busy day they're too tired.

Carol - did you enjoy your day out?
Nan - good to see you posting again. We missed you. Cas did a good job in relaying information.
Cas - did you get your bulbs planted ok?
Nuphar - think people are seeing a different side to you Laughing .
Susan - glad you're feeling better today.
Liz - Mossmorran which is not far from us has excess flaring sometimes too. Usually they put a warning on the radio so people don't panic.
Esses - computer problems aren't fun but keep in touch when you can.
Has anyone heard from Anne today. Hope everything's ok.

Sorry for anyone I missed commenting on.

QUICHE We had a lovely day out Thank you. We took Rachel out with us and enjoyed our visit to Lichfield. I didn't realise she hadn't been there before. It was dry and sunny although cool. We did some shopping , visited the Cathedral and the market, had a coffee then went on to Byrkley Garden Centre for lunch. I am trying to not think she has only ten days of her visit left. She is out in Nottingham with friends at the moment.

All because I mentioned a fishnet scarf
I have only 400 sents to delete now, getting on fine, and eating cheese, apple and pickled dill cucumber cubed with a silver cake fork.
I do wonder where all have gone, even checked to see if Downton had crept back. Kitty page?

should never have tried to edit my purple scar (f).
will find something else to talk about tomorrow, never fear.
Nite, kath.

Hello Nan and quiche - I just heard the boiler start, so I am hoping it will limp along until Wednesday when new boiler will be installed. At least the temperatures are to be better (2-4C). And we have wood stoves and fireplaces to keep the house warm (but no hot water....)

Sorry PHYL about your boiler I hope he can fix it for the time being. Just thinking ,there has been quite a bit of boiler and furnace trouble in the Village this year.

Hello Carol - this boiler is 20 years old, so it has had a good run.....at least we are not in the midst of very cold weather. Glad to read you had a wonderful day trip with Rachel.

Carol I was thinking that as well. I am going ahead with a new boiler and getting a wood burning stove installed. I notice a damp patch on chimney breast today.

Carmac you will have very mixed feelings, I'm sure, tonight. The house will seem so quiet once they go home. Sad

Nan - yes, I return to work on Monday. But have to travel for work at the end of the month.... This year's projects look to be quite interesting. I love our wood stoves - they have been great!
Carmac - I think you will enjoy the quiet, but I know you will miss everyone.

Night Carmac. Good you enjoyed your visitors. Bet part of you is glad to be back to normal though Laughing .
Funny you mentioning a lot of boiler problems Carol. We've been having some as well. We got a new flue fitted just before Christmas. Worked fine for a week then boiler kept switching itself off (woke up with no heating or hot water every morning). Called engineer out. He couldn't find anything wrong and thinks maybe it had something to do with the wind. Only way to find out is if it starts playing up again on windy days. Let's hope there's not too many more of them Laughing .

I'm away to bed too now. Going to church tomorrow so it'll be the earliest I've been up during the holidays. Our ministers son is being baptised so it is sure to be busy - have to get there early to get a seat Laughing . Have a good night/evening/day wherever you are. Bye x
